Coach Mullins brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success during his career spanning from his days as an All-State Linebacker in West Texas to his recent successes in the State Finals at Tolar ISD. Mullins brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a winning spirit to the Knights.

Mullins' journey in athletics began at Sunray and Merkel High School, where he emerged as an exceptional athlete, earning the titles of All-State Linebacker and District Defensive MVP during his senior year. Continuing his passion for football, he played for the University of Eastern New Mexico, leading the team in tackles as both a Junior and Senior.

Graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, Mullins has seamlessly transitioned from player to coach, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, both esteemed head football coaches.

His teaching and coaching career began with a return to Merkel High School. His six years there were marked by an unprecedented six consecutive playoff appearances and historical record-breaking seasons, including an outright District Championship in 2011, a feat not achieved since 1963.

Mullins continued his coaching journey at Boswell High School, where he served as co-defensive/special teams coordinator and contributed significantly to the success of the football and track and field programs. While there, the Pioneers achieved notable milestones in football, including three playoff appearances in four years, a District Championship in 2015 and a Quarterfinals appearance in 2016, breaking a 39-year record. Mullins also had the honor of coaching the back-to-back State Triple and Long Jump Champion for 2016 and 2017.

In 2017, Mullins took on the role of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Tolar ISD, where he led the athletic programs to unparalleled success for the Rattlers. The “Snake Farm,” as it's affectionately known, witnessed remarkable achievements in football, reaching the playoffs six seasons and the 2023 State Finals. The team boasted a 14-2 record in 2023, reaching the State Championship game and establishing themselves as District Champions, Bi-District Champions, Area Champions, Regional Semi-Final Champions, Regional Champions, Semi-Final Champions, and State Finalists.

Throughout his tenure at Tolar, Mullins garnered numerous accolades, including District Coaching Staff of the Year twice, recognition in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 40 under 40, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Coach of the Week twice, Texas High School Coaching Association Region III 2A Coach of the Year, and Harris Ratings 2A Coach of the Year.

Off the field, Coach Mullins is a devoted family man, sharing his life with his wife, Mandi, and their four children.
